My parents.

Today I was thinking about my parents and how thankful I am for the way they raised me.  I feel like I have a good head on my shoulders and I owe it all to them.  On August 1 of this year, they will be celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary.  I pray that when I get married I will take after them in this area of life.  My mom’s parents have been married for over 60 years and my dad’s parents were married for 50 years before my grandmother  passed away.  So while my cynicism might shine through in some of these posts — or maybe most of them… I actually have quite a few solid examples of faithful marriage and lasting love.

After 35 years of marriage they still hold hands.

If they can do it, what’s our excuse?

I was checking out one of my favorite blogs, dooce.com, when I came across this video Heather Armstrong posted.  To me, it’s about unconditional love… in an unconventional sense.  I’m not suggesting that people should start considering inter species relationships (though I have recently been considering looking for a loyal dog rather than a husband), but I do think we can learn a thing or two from this heartbreakingly sweet story.

Here is a picture of my mom and pops shortly after they were married.  It’s one of my favorite pics of all time.  I hope that I will one day love my spouse as much as my parents love each other.
