I’m beginning to think Willy didn’t want to be freed.

Poor Willy.

Any time I’ve ever heard talk about the conspiracy theories of the US governement’s involvement in the events of 9/11, I immediately dismissed it. However, after watching a documentary called Loose Change it’s almost impossible to deny the possibility that it could be true. I’ve posted the documentary below, but first, here’s a note from the filmmakers, Dylan Avery and Korey Rowe:

We have tried our best to avoid controversial or speculative topics and have made an effort to focus only on subjects we could prove as fact, supported either by hard, physical evidence, massive amounts of corroborating eyewitness testimony or both.

We have endured a lot of negative remarks and hostility, all for simply wanting to understand more about a terrible tragedy that not only took the lives of thousands of people in the United States, but also took endless more in its name during the wars that followed. We want a new investigation into the events of 9/11, not only because the first one was demonstrably inadequate but also because there has been ample testimony made by enough experts from around the world to bring the findings of the 9/11 Commission into question.

We are not dealing with conspiracy theories. We are dealing with facts. We are asking for the Truth and our requests will not cease until they are legitimately met. Until then, we must continue to ask questions and demand answers.

Note: This is part one. You can stream this on Netflix or watch the rest of it on Youtube

I decided to be unconventionally sexy this year to prevent sexual harassment in public space (Hollaback!).

Horse Driver.

Ps.  If you haven’t seen the movie DRIVE yet, go see it!

Anyone who can come up with an accurate, all encompassing, universal definition of love should be elevated to the highest place imaginable in society because they will have accomplished the impossible.  In my best attempted, I came up with, “Love is the absence of hate.”  One some level, it’s pretty true.  My new friend Evan tried to challenge me on it:

Evan: How would you define love?
Me:  As the absence of hate.
Evan: But… what about like?  That’s not hate or love.
Me:  Sure it is.  It’s platonic love.
Evan: Fine then what about lust?
Me:  That’s selfish love, which might as well just be hate.

Soon after having this conversation, Evan and I went to see the movie Paper Heart.

If you haven’t already seen the movie Paper Heart, I recommend seeing it.  It’s a good one to see if you’re in a relationship, or if you’re single, or even if you’ve just recently gotten dumped.  (I promise it’s not one of those make-you-want-to-slit-your-wrist romantic comedies that rubs salt in the wound).  I was in a terrible mood when I saw it and yet I laughed the whole way through.

There were a few scenes in the movie that I thought were a little contrived but if you’re able to look past those, it’s a cute story (staged to be a documentary) about a girl whose experiences of “love” have turned her into a modern-day skeptic (Hey! That’s me!).  The film tells the story of her trip across the country to find the answer to her question: Does true love really exist?  …only, she didn’t really find an answer, unless the answer is that she’s the problem… so… yeah.

Why didn’t I think of this first?

My favorite part of this video, which was sent to me by Tav, is the little boy’s expression when he realizes the truth.  I don’t want to give anything away but it is so adorable.  But that poor girl.  She’s really put on the spot, I’d say.  What is she supposed to say with Tan Hong Ming standing there over her shoulder?

After you watch this video, you might be interested in the following explanation from fairfax71,  “The boy is Chinese, and the girl is Malay. “Tan Hong Ming” is a Chinese name and “Umi Qazrina” is Malay. The sponsor, Petronas, is the Malaysian state oil company; Malaysia has had a lot of racial strife in its history, particularly between ethnic Chinese and Malay people.”

The movie Slumdog Millionaire was a successful film, which was proven by the eight Academy Awards it won in February.  I think these awards are well deserved but I remember sitting in the movie theater and having my growing love for the movie suddenly disrupted by a gag reflex.  Contrary to the opinions of many, I hated the ending.  It was way too — lovie.  And not just slightly-romantic-lovie.  I thought it was way over the top, boarder-line lame, lovie.  Here’s how the reunion conversation went at the train station:

Jamal: I knew you’d be watching.
Latika: I thought we would meet again only in death.
Jamal: This is our destiny.
Latika: Kiss me.

I’ve seen the movie twice and seeing this scene the second time was just as disappointing as it was the first time.   I felt like it was a very powerful, interesting, well-done film with a cheesy little ending tacked onto the end.  Am I alone in thinking this?

Eye candy.

Sigh.  I try to make a joke, which I think is quite clever, and nobody gets it.  Robert Pattinson played the role of Edward Cullen in the movie Twilight.  See, a girl named Bella falls madly in love with Edward who is a vampire — to the point where she wants to be turned into a vampire, or basically die, so she can be with him forever.  Hence, “Robert Pattinson — he’s to DIE for.”

Make fun of me all you want, but I will say that almost every female I know has at least read the first book in the series…

Here’s a bit of eye candy for you all:

Robert Pattinson as Edward
