My favorite part of this video, which was sent to me by Tav, is the little boy’s expression when he realizes the truth.  I don’t want to give anything away but it is so adorable.  But that poor girl.  She’s really put on the spot, I’d say.  What is she supposed to say with Tan Hong Ming standing there over her shoulder?

After you watch this video, you might be interested in the following explanation from fairfax71,  “The boy is Chinese, and the girl is Malay. “Tan Hong Ming” is a Chinese name and “Umi Qazrina” is Malay. The sponsor, Petronas, is the Malaysian state oil company; Malaysia has had a lot of racial strife in its history, particularly between ethnic Chinese and Malay people.”

The following phone conversation took place between me and a guy I was trying to shake.  I have since matured.

Alex:  I loooove kids. Do you want to have kids someday?
Me:  Sure, I guess so.  I mean, I’m not a huge fan of kids but I’m sure I would like my own.
Alex:  My sister just had twins, I think that would be so cool.
Me:  Oh man.  I don’t know what I would do if I had twins.  Probably pick one and give it up for adoption.
… long pause…
Alex:  Oh… I guess that’s one option… Well, see ya!

Ok, the conversation didn’t exactly end that abruptly but it felt like it did.  And for the record, I really don’t like kids that much (aside from my nephews) but if I did have twins I would keep and love them both very very much.

Barkers is fitting right in.

A little while ago, I wrote about Barkers, the stuffed animal I gave my newborn nephew.  Well, I’m happy to report that Miles and Barkers have been getting along very well.  Take a look at the love:

Play time.

The other morning, my nephew, Eli randomly said to my sister-in-law,

ELI: Hey Mom, I love you! When I get older, can I marry you?

MOM: Well, Eli, that’s really sweet that you want to marry me, but I can’t marry you. I will still be married to your Daddy.

ELI: Well, do you think we could have two guys and one girl married together? Then me and Dad could both be married to you.

MOM: Um… no. You can only marry one person, and you stay married to
that person for your whole life.  Plus, you’re my son.  I’ll always be
your Mom though!

ELI: Well, what if you forgot that you married Dad?  Then could you marry me?

MOM: [laughing] No, I don’t think I would forget that…

ELI: What if Dad missed some other girls and wanted to get married to
somebody else?

MOM: [WHAT??] Your Dad won’t do that.  We love each other and will stay
married for our whole lives.

ELI: Forever?

ME: Yep.  Forever.  That’s the way it works.  I will always love you as your Mom, and someday you’ll get married to a nice pretty girl who you’ll fall in love with, when you are a lot bigger.

ELI: [big sigh] Okay, I guess I’ll just have to marry Brenna then.  [Brenna is a friend at church who at least twice his age!]  But I’ll wait until I’m THIS tall [holding his hand just above his mom’s head] — taller than you!

My sister-in-law is 5 foot 2.  Eli will probably pass her by before he’s a teenager… Good luck, sis!  You’ve got a little ladies’ man on your hands.

What I love about Alex Greven is that at age 9, he seems to have relationships all figured out.  I speculate that he is going to turn out one of two ways: 1.  He’ll have the best luck with relationships ever, OR  2. he’ll be divorced 5 times by the time he’s 30.  Either way, there’s something we can all learn from him…

My friend Tav once told me, if you want to hear the truth about something ask a kid.  So I did.  My sister and I sat my nephew down and, sandwiched in between other questions, I got what I was looking for.  The answer to, “Why do people get married?”
